Red onion trial achieves margin increase of over £1400 per hectare using Maxstim biostimulants

Trial Data

Red onions

Maxstim biostimulants have been successfully increasing yields in various crops throughout the UK and Europe. Generating high quality replicated field data is the only reliable way of proving the benefits of applying complex biostimulants. Our agronomy team have been working with onion farmers in Suffolk and Cambridgeshire to assess the impact of a well designed biostimulant treatment regime on red onions.

The growers implemented our application protocol at the recommended total amount of 32.5l of Agriculture+ and 8l of Cynosa per hectare spread over 4 separate applications as a foliar spray and the increase in yield calculated at harvest. The crop variety was Red Barron.

Agriculture+ is a complex biostimulant with a wide range of bioactive components including our unique bioflavonoids and polyphenols, creating better root development and early growth.

Cynosa™ contains ortho silicic acid enabling plants to assimilate silicon to strengthen plant structures and increase resistance to disease.

Application

Six plots were assigned to each experimental treatment and were compared to a control which was current best practice. All the plots, treated and control, were treated as usual with the grower’s regular additional agricultural inputs including fertiliser and fungicides.

Results

There was an additional 8.82 t/ha more yield in the treated areas, compared to the control plots.

With this data, our team has calculated that even after the deduction of the product cost of Maxstim complex biostimulants, there was a significant increase in crop margin per hectare of over £1400.
