How bioflavonoid programmes are improving consistent crop performance
Conocimiento

Growing conditions are becoming increasingly difficult to manage consistently.
Global agriculture is operating under pressure from multiple directions:
- Increasing climate variability
- Rising fertiliser and energy costs
- Reduced availability of crop protection chemistry
- Supply chain volatility
- Pressure to improve sustainability and nutrient efficiency
For growers, maintaining marketable yield and protecting margin has become more challenging every season.
This is driving increasing interest in crop programmes that improve plant efficiency and help growers produce more from existing inputs.
Across replicated field programmes, Maxstim inputs have consistently shown improvements in:
- Marketable yield
- Crop consistency
- Root development
- Crop resilience under stress
- Margin per hectare
The results are consistent.
Across 50 UK potato field trials conducted between 2022 and 2025, Maxstim programmes delivered an average yield increase of 3.7 t/ha and an average margin increase of £360/ha after treatment costs.
Across 23 onion field trials, growers recorded average marketable yield increases of 5.73 t/ha with margin improvements ranging from £350 to £600/ha.
The value is not a single exceptional result.
The value is the consistency of response across growing conditions, multiple varieties and repeated seasons.
Why nutrient efficiency matters
As fertiliser markets remain volatile, improving nutrient use efficiency is becoming increasingly important.
Recent geopolitical tensions involving major fertiliser producing regions have again highlighted how vulnerable fertiliser supply chains can be to disruption. Increased pressure on nitrogen, phosphate and energy markets is increasing grower focus on technologies that help crops utilise nutrients more efficiently.
Efficient plants produce more consistent crops.
Bioflavonoids are naturally occurring plant compounds involved in regulating plant growth, stress response and nutrient utilisation.
Maxstim programmes are designed to support:
- Photosynthesis
- Root architecture
- Nutrient uptake
- Plant signalling pathways
- Stress management
When these systems operate efficiently, crops are better able to maintain growth and marketable performance during periods of stress.
Peer reviewed research published in Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems demonstrated that flavonoid based Maxstim programmes improved photosynthetic activity, root development and nutrient uptake efficiency in potato crops.
Replicated field performance
Growers need reliable evidence from real farm conditions.
In potatoes, Maxstim programmes have demonstrated:
- Consistent yield increases across 53 field trials
- Improved skin finish in 91% of in-furrow treatments
- Increased marketable yield grades
- Improved margins after treatment costs
Suffolk grower Tony Parr initially trialled Maxstim on 15 hectares before expanding use across his potato crop following three years of replicated results.
His trials delivered a marketable yield increase of 10.64%, equivalent to approximately £700/ha additional return.
“The last three year’s growing conditions have been tough and every time Maxstim increased my yields.”
In onions, replicated programmes have consistently shown improvements in:
- Marketable yield
- Harvestable plant population
- Crop uniformity
- Margin performance
In one Netherlands programme, Maxstim treatments increased onion yield by 9.84% compared to standard chemistry alone.
Again, the results were consistent across replicated field conditions.
Looking ahead
Modern crop production is entering a period where efficiency, resilience and sustainability are becoming increasingly connected.
Growers are under increasing pressure to:
- Maintain output with fewer available inputs
- Improve nutrient efficiency
- Reduce waste
- Protect margin under volatile market conditions
- Deliver sustainable crop production at scale
Backed by replicated field programmes, Maxstim bioflavonoid treatments are helping growers improve crop performance while making better use of existing fertiliser and crop input programmes.
This is about delivering reliable field performance that growers can scale confidently across the farm.
