Greenhouse tomatoes in Almeria

Consistency through the season: greenhouse tomatoes in Almería
Maintaining crop consistency from September through to June places continuous pressure on a greenhouse system, particularly in older structures.
Antonio Jover grows grafted Velasco tomatoes in San Isidro, Almería, in a flat greenhouse in Los Grillos. The structure is more than 40 years old and covers approximately 8,000 m². The crop is produced as a green tomato for the salad market, with performance needing to be maintained across the full production cycle.
A programme built in from the start
Maxstim Agriculture+ and Cynosa are used from the beginning of the crop, starting with the first irrigation.
Agriculture+ is applied at 3 L/ha and Cynosa at 2 L/ha, with applications repeated every 10–15 days. This programme is maintained consistently throughout the season, rather than introduced later.
Consistency carried through the crop
Across the full cycle, the crop is described as remaining very homogeneous and very healthy. That consistency is maintained through to output, with high yield and high-quality production reported.
The approach remains consistent, with additional applications used where required.
Managing pruning and plant response
A key part of the system is how the crop is managed during routine operations such as pruning.
Cynosa is applied before and after leaf cutting as part of the standard approach. In the video, treated wounds are visibly covered following application, forming part of how the crop is managed in a high-humidity environment.
Maxstim Agriculture+ is used alongside this to support overall plant condition through the season, with the grower linking its use to stronger, healthier plants and improved fruit development.
Performance under winter conditions
At the time of recording, the crop is in December conditions, with high humidity and rainfall. Despite this, the plants are described as remaining in good condition and continuing to grow actively.
Grower perspective
“These two products are essential for the crops here on my farm… I’m very happy with both products — extremely happy.”
Resumen
In this greenhouse system, inputs are applied from the start of the irrigation programme and maintained throughout the season. The result is a crop that remains uniform and healthy over a long production period, delivering high yield and quality, with a consistent approach to managing pruning and plant response under humid conditions.
